I've been having trouble getting late-season mallards to finish. They'll work the spread but flare at 50 yards. What feeding call variations work for you on educated birds?
Getting my nephew started duck hunting next season. Should I start him on a double reed or push straight to single? I learned on double but wonder if that was a mistake...
My calls freeze up on those single-digit mornings. The reed gets stiff and won't vibrate right. How do you guys keep your calls performing in extreme cold?
Been using TSI for a month now. Getting consistent 75-80% on greeting calls. Is that good for someone starting out? What should I be aiming for?

🎯 The 3-Second Rule
When ducks are working, pause for 3 seconds between calling sequences. Constant calling is unnatural. Real hens call, then feed, then call again. Give birds time to respond.
🔊 Volume Matching
Match your volume to the birds' distance. Hail call at 200 yards, greeting at 100, feed call at 50. Nothing spooks ducks faster than screaming at birds that are already committed.
👂 Listen Before You Call
Spend your first hunts of the season just listening to real hens. Record them on your phone. Those natural rhythms and cadences should be your template, not YouTube videos.
