Gear Hauling

Packable deer carts. How to get 130lb of deer from woods to Uber to freezer.

Local Ordinance Awareness

CRITICAL: Urban and suburban hunting is governed by a patchwork of city, county, HOA, and state rules. You MUST verify every location before hunting. TSI provides guidance, not legal advice.

Discharge Ordinances

Most suburbs ban firearm discharge. Archery is often permitted. Always verify the specific city/county code.

Setback Rules

150-yard setbacks from dwellings are common. 50-yard setbacks from roads. Know your parcel boundaries.

HOA Restrictions

Even in a legal area, your HOA may restrict. Read the covenants. Written approval before setting a stand.

State Urban Deer Programs

Many states now run urban archery seasons (NJ, VA, GA, OH). Extra tags, close-to-home hunts.

Dispatching Game Humanely (Urban Settings)

In urban environments, a wounded animal can't run far before crossing backyards, streets, or schoolyards. Your shot selection matters more here than anywhere.

  • Broadside or quartering-away shots only. No frontal shots in urban cover.
  • Mechanical broadheads with reliable pass-through. Expendable blades — Rage Hypodermic, Sevr.
  • Blood-trailing protocols for wet pavement and mulch beds. Leave it. Call a licensed tracker.
  • Notify local PD if you cross a property boundary during recovery. Many departments have non-emergency protocols for this.
  • Carry a short-barreled follow-up option (crossbow) in your pack for humane dispatch where legal.
